GeneVAnD Supplements

    Supplement to Figure 5:

A glycolysis cluster (2E from Eisen et al., 98) displayed using our difference image visualization. The red and green boxes correspond to variation between two groups of genes in the highly underexpressed region. Of the 9 genes included in the red box, 8 are annotated to glycolysis (TPI1, GPM1, PGK1, TDH3, TDH2, ENO2, TDH1, and FBA1), resulting in a p-value of 8.98e-20 using GoTermFinder. However, of the 8 genes in the green box, only 3 are annotated to glycolysis (CDC19, TYE7, PFK1). The genes in the green box are better characterized as related to the more general process of alcohol metabolism, as 7 of the 8 genes share this annotation (PDC5, PDC6, PDC1, CDC19, HXK2, TYE7, PFK1), resulting in a p-value of 1.71e-11 in GoTermFinder. Thus, it is biologically meaningful to note the difference between these two subgroups of genes, which is apparent in the difference display method.
